Untouchable Face

Chromogenic colour prints
50 x 50cm

A portrait that has no face is meaningless in its original task. The unidentifiability of the face generalizes these otherwise individual based images to relate to all of us. It can be anyone in the image.  “A blurry picture is more a picture, than a ‘picture of something’” (Harri Laakso, Valokuvan tapahtuma, p. 268). Motion-blur causes the phenomenon of the disappearance of the models face. It creates and obstacle for examination of the expression. Paradoxically these images have recorded a much wider range of expressions than the traditional portraits do. It is said that when death approaches the dying person becomes blurry. “Negative is a light mask (a formation of light). Negative is an act of hiding and revealing; a death mask, that is more visible to the picture maker than the viewer.” (ibid)

Kromogeeniset värivedokset
50 x 50cm

“Negatiivi on valonmaski (valon muodostuma). (sama)
