I’m ok

In I’m ok I realize the motive of one photograph with variety of techniques. The photograph represents a woman (who sometimes becomes interpreted as a man dressed as a woman) in a traditional portrait image. The woman wears a pearl necklace that is tightened so fast that her face has become red. Despite of the agony she smiles: ”I’m ok”.

Through the re-productions of the original photograph I explore the theme of repetition. This repeating of the same image is central conceptually in how the different techniques intertwine with the subject matter creating new interpretations of it. The repetition is present also in the ways how the images were made, through repetitive stitches, strokes etc. creating a mantra-like workflow. One aim of this series is to show the hard work that is mostly required in an artistic process, even though it tends to stay hidden behind the apparent easiness of an artwork.

The image has been realized with following techniques: post card, cross stitch, coloured b/w photograph, light box, serigraphy, oil painting, rug, copy etching, video, icon painting, picture pearls, knit wear, etching, slides, water colour painting, pearl plaiting, mosaic, patchwork quilt, felt work and ceramics.

Teoksessani I’m ok toteutan yhden valokuvan motiivia usealla eri tekniikalla. Tästä huolimatta nainen hymyilee: ”I’m ok”.

Kuva on toteutettu seuraavilla tekniikoilla: postikortti, ristipisto väritetty hopeagelatiinivedos, valolaatikko, serigrafia, öljyvärimaalaus, ryijy, kopioetsaus, video, ikonimaalaus, hamahelmiteos, neulepaita, viivasyövytys, diakuvat, vesivärimaalaus, helmipunonta, mosaiikki, tilkkutäkki, huovutustyö, keramiikka.
