Myytin toinen yleinen merkitys on paikkaansa pitämättömänä fiktiona, kollektiivisena väärinkäsityksenä.

Songs of Wit and Wisdom draws its subject matter from the nature mythologies of different peoples. In the scientific sense, the myth has traditionally meant a fundamental creation story, a description of the events that define the world and its future events and structures. Another common meaning of the myth is an untrue fiction, a collective misunderstanding. Mythology is a system of myths, an entity, or a doctrine shared by nations and ethnic communities in their narrative tradition. The underworld has its own topography, the gods live in the mountains, the elves in the forest or in the waters. In fact, all the major mythical events and actors are localized in nature.

The images in the exhibition have been made with the wet plate collodion technique prevalent mainly in the 1860s’ and -70s. Tintype is a direct positive photographic method in which a blackened metal plate (in the exhibition black aluminium) is sensitised right before exposure and developed immediately thereafter.
